Three men who were arrested following the shooting of former ANC member of parliament, Jackson Mthembu appeared in the Naphuno Magistrate's Court on charges possession of suspected stolen goods on Wednesday.

The suspects, Edward Kgapane Phakula (49), Solly Maenetja (30) and Sipho Mohale (26), all from Maake area, were arrested on Monday evening following the shooting of former ANC spokesperson and member of  Parliament, Jackson Mthembu’s  on Sunday night October 26.

The former ANC spokesperson, Mthembu was shot while drawing money from an ATM in Witbank.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said they received a tip-off and arrested three men who were found in possession of one laptop, 30 cellphones, 28 bank cards and one card cloning device.

Magistrate Nkensani Moila remanded the three in police custody pending further investigations and to give them a chance to get legal representative of their choice declining an offer for Legal Aid appointed lawyers.

The three were due to appear for formal bail application at the time of going to press. Meanwhile, Mohlala later said that the three suspects could not be linked to the shooting of Mthembu.
