Armed robbers in court

Two suspects who were found with cigarettes to the value of more than R500 000 appeared in the Naphuno Magistrate's court last Wednesday.

Two suspects who were found with cigarettes to the value of more than R500 000 appeared in the Naphuno Magistrate’s court last Wednesday.

Eric Makwala (38) and Cliff Ngwenya (34) were remanded in police custody when they appeared in court for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed fire-arm.

Their case was postponed to November 3, for formal bail application.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Ronel Otto said the two suspects were arrested after a cigarette delivery vehicle was robbed twice in a week at Burgersdorp Village.

“Police followed up information and with the assistance of a security company, the two suspects were arrested and cigarettes to the value of more than R500 000 were recovered and an unlicensed fire-arm confiscated,” said Otto.

Otto said further investigations revealed that Ngwenya is on bail for a similar offence committed at Seshego earlier this year.

Police investigations are continuing.
