EXCLUSIVE: Moller talks to Letaba Herald about Malema brawl

Cassie Moller talks about his run-in with EFF-leader Julius Malema

Simply placing an order at a fast-food restaurant ended in a nasty altercation that made headlines last week.

The squabble involved Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader, Julius Malema and a local resident, Cassie Moller. It is alleged Moller and his wife were on their way home at around 2:00am when they decided to stop for a take-away. His wife placed an order at around 02:29 but fifteen minutes later she had not received their order.

Moller said he then went to the restaurant after his wife signaled him to come inside. “I just wanted to call a cashier and ask about our order because it was long overdue. I did not utter any racist remark to the cashier,” said Moller.

According to EFF’s statement Malema was protecting the cashier from a “drunk, racist bully”. Moller maintains he was working behind the bar at a golf tournament and they were not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages. “I was not drunk,” he said.

Although the incident occurred two months ago, it only became known to the public after AfriForum released the CCTV footage of Malema and Moller’s brawl last week Thursday. AfriForum assisted Moller in pressing charges against Malema. Police spokesperson, Colonel Ronel Otto confirmed that a case of common assault, intimidation and crimen injuria was opened at the Tzaneen Police Station.

Moller said he did not press charges for revenge, but he hopes by so doing others will speak out as well.
