Twitter reacts to charges against Malema

Malema was defending cashier from 'racist bully', according to tweets.

It has been implied on Twitter that Julius Malema was defending a black cashier from a ‘racist bully’.

This after AfriForum assisted Cassie Moller in pressing charges against Malema at the Tzaneen police station today.

Moller and Malema were involved in an altercation in a fast food restaurant in Tzaneen on 6 August.

CCTV footage of the incident shows Moller’s wife placing an order at the restaurant. Ten minutes later, she leaves the restaurant briefly before resuming her place at the counter. Three minutes later, she gestures to someone out of the frame and two minutes later Moller enters the restaurant. Malema enters shortly thereafter, slaps Moller on the back and pushes him away from the counter.

Bystanders try to intervene but to no avail.

Shortly after, Moller’s wife is seen leaving with their order after which Malema pushes Moller out the door.

No sound is available on the footage but according to Moller, Malema was constantly swearing at him. In his affidavit published by Afriforum, Moller says Malema acted very intimidating, shouting: “F*ck you, you boer”.

Malema retweeted two posts by people who voiced their opinions:  “It’s true at times don’t believe everything you read, reading about @Julius_S_Malema slapping someone & the CCTV tells a different story.”

He also retweeted the following: “@mbanjwax that is lazy reporting. The article should read: @Julius_S_Malema defends cashiers from a racist bully.”

AfriForum has also been utilising Twitter, sharing threats they received: “Another EFF threat: ‘we will b forced 2 come after @afriforum office n burn it down. That’s a Fact!'”

The EFF Twitter page was full of praise for Malema:
