Suspects appear in court after robbery

Three suspects arrested in connection with a robbery appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Monday for bail applications.

THREE suspects arrested in connection with a robbery appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Monday for bail applications.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Jean Pierre Potgieter was released on bail while Karabo Lebea and Lisborn Nhlala were denied bail.

Lebea and Nhlala robbed Potgieter of a large amount of money on October 6. He was on his way to bank the money and was robbed in front of a bank in town. Police investigations quickly revealed that he was in cahoots with Lebea and Nhlala, and they were arrested the same day. According to provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, a significant amount of money was found in their possession. They also confessed to hijacking the vehicle used to flee the scene.

They are facing charges of common robbery, conspiracy to commit crime and carjacking.

The case was postponed to November 21 for further investigations.
