Hotspurs lifts the Top 8 Soccer Challenge trophy

Nwamitwa Hotspurs thrashed Hlanganani 5-1 to lift the Top 8 Soccer Challenge trophy at Nkambako, Shining Stars grounds on Sunday.

In the semi-finals, Nwamitwa Hotspurs fought hard to win 2-1 against Hill Zebras while Hlanganani won 7-6 on penalties against Maweni following a scoreless draw in regulation time.

The quarter-final results were as follows, Hill Zebras 1,1 Misiphani.

Hill Zebras won 5-4 on penalties. Nwamitwa Hotspurs 2-0 Woof Woof; Jasi 1-1 Hlanganani.

Hlanganani won 6-5 on penalties.

Maweni 0-0 Mopani Combination. Maweni won 5-4 on penalties.

Nsovo Makhubela of Nwamitwa Hotspurs was selected as Player of the Tournament and received R150 prize money. For winning the tournament, Hotspurs received R5300 cash prize money, a trophy and silver medals while the runners-up.

Hlanganani took home R2500 plus silver medals.

The winner’s trophy was sponsored by Cheka Impilo programme coordinator, Nelly Baloyi.

Meanwhile, interested soccer teams from Nwamitwa and the surrounding areas are invited to join the Meadowbank Top 16 tournament to take place on the weekends of 29-30 May and 5-6 June.

The joining fee is R1200 and the draw will be held on Sunday, 23 May at Meadowbank starting at 14:00.

Tournament runners-up, Hlanganani.

The winners of the tourney will receive, R12 000 cash prize money, a trophy and gold medals while the runners-up will get R8 000 plus silver medals.

The third-placed team will walk away with R5 000. The player of the Tournament will pocket R250 whilst the same amount will be up for grabs for the top goal scorer.
