Tzaneen tennis is off to a great post pandemic start

Tzaneen Tennis Club is the place to be for local tennis lovers as they are currently hosting their annual Club championships tournament.

They have the singles and doubles tournament which is used to determine the ranking within the club.

Bernard Schoeman of the Tzaneen Tennis Club says they are expecting to have their finals either late September or early October.

“We will have a big function to celebrate the finals, and of course we will be adhering to the Covid-19 regulations,” he said.

The club championships are held for about a month and usually take place in the cooler winter months (usually July or August).

However things were different this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The club consists of plus minus 56 members and currently recruiting new members.

Bernard told the Herald that the club has a proud history of producing many excellent players including those who have played nationally and also at international level.

The club is family friendly; and has just recently been upgraded with great courts and lights.

Bernard says they have also gave the clubhouse a face lift.

“The idea was to upgrade it a little bit and make it pleasant for our visitors; some of our family members do not play tennis but they like coming here to watch and support their families, so it has to be appealing to everyone who comes here,” he said.
