Kgoale is the SAB KickStart Boost finalist

A local entrepreneur, Mpho Kgoale has been selected as one of the SAB KickStart Boost finalists.

SAB KickStart is a youth development programme aimed at creating meaningful jobs in South Africa by growing sustainable youth-owned businesses. It is targeted at young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35.

Kgoale (34) from Sekororo near Hoedspruit in Maruleng established Twaing Trading in 2010, a business that manufactures precast concrete products. The primary focus of the business is manufacturing windowsills, where one design called TGK windowsill has been patented and is available at various hardware stores in and around the Ga Sekororo area. In addition, the business specialises in the manufacturing of lintels, pillars and gullies. Supplementary income is generated through the rental of mobile toilets.

“Within the precast concrete industry, I have learnt, the more moulds you have, the greater the business opportunities are,” said Kgoale.

Twaing Trading is a 100% black-owned business and currently employs three young people from the community and plans to employ up to five by the end of the year, based on business growth. To help develop the business, Kgoale has set a series of goals. In the short term, he would like to increase production output, which in turn would reduce lead time on delivery.

In addition, he would like to relocate the business, which is currently operating from a backyard to a new trade site that will house the infrastructure, equipment and machinery to meet increasing demand. Long term, Kgoale would like to expand his operations to concrete roof tiles and become the leading concrete precast manufacturer in Limpopo.

As a SAB KickStart Boost finalist, Mpho is using the programme as a platform to achieve his short term goals and gain market access and resources to further develop the business. “Being part of the programme is helping me grow as a person and as a business – I want to take my learnings and continuing growing long after I have completed SAB KickStart,” he added.

To date, SAB KickStart has upskilled more than 25 000 entrepreneurs and empowered over 3 500 youth-owned businesses in the country
