AFTER the cloudburst on Wednesday, athletes were glad to witness sunny skies when Merensky High School hosted the first athletics meeting of 2015, on January 15.

True to tradition, the different Grade groups competed against each other with field and track items.

The singing teams started off with a “bang” with the seniors beating the juniors with their spirited performance at the end of the day.

An exceptional amount of athletes reported to the starting line, creating an expectancy of super athletics over the next six weeks.

Sadly it is the last year that the local hero, Phillemon Mabidilala (SA u.17 400m champion) performed in front of the school at an inter house.

His last season as a superb Plasie athlete will be followed closely by one and all.
