PMC donates jet sewer machine to municipality

The role that hygiene plays with regards to water provision and sanitation in ensuring that people are protected against the spread of the coronavirus, cannot be underestimated.

These are the words of Meriam Malatji, Ba-Phalaborwa mayor, during the handing over of a jet sewer machine by the Palabora Mining Company (PMC) in collaboration with the Palabora Foundation, to the Ba-Phalaborwa municipality.

“I believe this machine will elevate the level of service delivery to the community at large.”

The machine is set to reduce a backlog on clearing sewer blockages that have been troubling residents.

Nozipho Zitha, PMC transformation superintendent said that when they received the letter from the municipality requesting the machine, they did not hesitate to respond to their plea.

“We understood the urgency and the change the machine can bring about to our people.

It is heartbreaking to see our roads flooded with water that ultimately ruins the quality of the roads.

The machine will make a huge difference and assist us in maintaining good hygiene and sanitation.

Thank you once again for putting our people first.”

He explained that it will take long to eradicate the sanitation crisis due to inadequate resources that the municipality is currently facing to solve the sewage challenges.

On his list of needed resources was a tractor loader backhoe (TLB) and a water pump which he believes will also help in ending this dilemma.

“The municipality is one of PMC’s valuable stakeholders, therefore it is in our interest to ensure mutually beneficial relations and continuous partnership for the benefit of all the residents of Ba-Phalaborwa.”

The official handover was on Wednesday, 10 March. Also present was a team from Palabora Foundation and officials.
