Nyiko starts 3000km cycle in aid of fathers’ rights

The name Nyiko 'Mr Dynamix' Masango is synonymous with adventure and pushing the body and the mind to their limits.

Masango did not allow Covid-19 to stop his adventurous spirit. He will be cycling 3143km from Beit Bridge to Cape Town to further his ‘Presence to Fatherhood’ campaign from Saturday, 21 November.

The initiative advocates for fathers’ rights in their children’s lives and also aims to show the significance of the role of a father in the life of a child.

The initiative was inspired by his own personal journey and challenges he faced as a father few years ago. “I continue to support this initiative, because I have seen the pain that comes with being unable to parent your own child.

“Children suffer the most as a result of the friction between the mother and the father and I encourage the two parties to put the needs of the child first,” he explained.

The epic ride will take him over five provinces, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape. He first started this initiative by walking 100km from Polokwane to Tzaneen with other adventure enthusiasts three weeks ago.

Last year he cycled 3400km from Tzaneen through Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi to Tanzania where he also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.

Masango is also in the process of starting his own cycling club and a boys’ leadership academy. “I have identified young cyclists and I have committed myself to assist them to get proper bicycles so that they can stay away from trouble.

“Cycling really helped me to become the man I am today, because it kept me from engaging in inappropriate activities while growing up,” he added.

With the leadership academy he has a forum of men who he mentored in the past 21 years of being a minister, who will be panelists on his board.

He told the Herald that the academy will be cover the spirit, soul and the body.

Masango will be looking to finish his trip within a period of six weeks. For more information or sponsorship call 072 299 2822 or go to his ‘Presence to Fatherhood’ Facebook page.
