New athletics club launched

A newly established club for road runners will be officially launched on Saturday.

Bolobedu Athletics Club will be launched at Mokwakwaila, Bolobedu in the Greater Letaba municipal area with activities starting at 06:00.

According to the club chairperson, Daniel Mabulana, the club was officially registered with Limpopo Athletics (LIMA) which is affiliated to Athletics South Africa (ASA) in February this year.

Mabulana said the purpose of the club, which already has 45 licensed members, is to develop and promote the interests of its athletes and to promote road running especially amongst the residents of Bolobedu and surrounding areas.

“The club had plans to host memorable and official road running events earlier this year, but all these had to be cancelled because of Covid-19 pandemic,” said Mabulala.

He said that the youngest member of the club is 19-yearsold and the oldest is 68-years of age. The activities during the launch include a 5 kilometre fun/walk and 10 km road running event.

“We rely on the public’s support for the success of this event and hope for a positive response,” said Mabulana.
