Tzaneen coronavirus patient welcomed back into society

Man who travelled to Tzaneen after undergoing a Covid-19 test, is now negative after isolation period.

Tzaneen residents can now sigh a sigh of relief after Bongani Ngobeni has been tested negative for Covid-19.

Two weeks ago, Ngobeni was trending on social media for all the wrong reasons.

He was being accused of intentionally wanting to infect people with the virus after travelling from Gauteng to Tzaneen where he was expected to go in self-isolation.

Reports initially stated that he had tested positive in Gauteng and was traced down in his village outside of Tzaneen.

After his release the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) mayor, Maripe Mangena, visited the Ngobeni family at home.

“The purpose of the visit is to welcome him back into society. We are happy that the he has now tested negative and we wish you nothing but the best,” Mangena said.

He said he hopes Bongani will be embraced and not discriminated against when goes back to work in Gauteng after lockdown.

A woman who shares a surname with Bongani, said she was suspended from work after being accused of being related to him.

“On Wednesday I was told that I have to go home because I was in contact with Bongani. The sad part is that I have never met him,” the woman said in a radio interview earlier.
