Life imprisonment for murderer

A 25 year-old man was sentenced to life imprison for murder in the Circuit of the High Court at Soekmekaar last Thursday.

Joseph Manyike was convicted of killing Modjadji Mtileni (89) at Mohlabaneng Village, Bolobedu in October last year.

He was also sentenced to 15 years for common robbery and a further five years for house breaking and theft.

Manyike’s accomplice, Moses Mahasha was only found guilty for common robbery and house breaking and theft and an unrelated case of possession of suspected stolen goods.

Mahasha was sentenced to 15 years for common robbery and a further five years for house breaking and theft and eight months for possession of suspected stolen goods.

The court heard that the two man entered the victim’s room after breaking the window.

They demanded money which she handed to them. After realising that she knew them, Manyike strangled her to death.

All the sentences will run concurrently.
