Residents of the Lephephane and Khujwana Village are complaining about the killings occurring on their recently opened tarred road.

Since August, five people have been killed on the road and three were school children.

The headman together with the affected schools wrote letters to the municipality requesting speed humps be raised on the road and they were told that the municipality have no money.

The community then escalated the matter to the Office of the Premier where they were transferred to the office of the MEC of public works, roads and infrastructure.

Speaking to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality spokesperson Neville Ndlala, “There are no funds available for humps in that road for now, we will look how we can make funds available during the budget adjustments in January 2015”.

The office of the MEC promised to look into the matter and give feedback. “Please give us time to investigate on the matter and I promise we will get back to you as soon as possible”, said Kelis Matlala, office of the MEC media liaison officer.
