Tzaneen police investigate culpable homicide after gruesome death on R36 road

The incident is said to have happened at around 22:00 on Thursday.

Update 12:00

On Thursday at around 21:00 Cornel van Schalkwyk from Tzaneen Neighbourhood Watch and a colleague were patrolling when they received a call of an accident that happened on the R36.

They found the dismantled body of a woman in the road (where the road becomes double) in the direction towards Modjadjiskloof. At the Merensky turnoff they found the VW up! car where it had hit the side of the road.

The driver, a young woman, was still in the car.  An ambulance arrived and the woman was taken away.

Van Schalkwyk and his colleague went back to the initial impact of the accident to secure the scene until the police arrived.

Statement as received from the police:

Tzaneen SAPS is investigating a case of culpable homicide after a white VW up! hit an unknown African female at R36 road (Merensky crossing) dissecting her body.

The driver’s door was wide open and the driver was nowhere to be found.
