‘Benefit for Reinhardt’ fundraiser a success

The fundraiser was an initiative by the Letaba Tzaneen Lions Club to help raise money towards Reinhardt Geldenhuys' leukemia treatment.

The Letaba Tzaneen Lions Club recently held a fundraising event to help raise funds towards Reinhardt Geldenhuys’ medical treatment.

Geldenhuys (9) was diagnosed with leukemia and started treatment in May last year and had to be taken out of Tzaneen Primary School as a result of his immune system being too weak.

As the oldest of three children to Lizette and Gerhardus Geldenhuys, and the first in their family to have cancer, Reinhardt’s fighting spirit and enthusiasm has given them hope and opened their eyes to what challenges come with having to deal with cancer.

Speaking on the fundraiser, Geldenhuys said that he and his family are grateful for what the Lions Club and that community had done for them.

“A great thanks to the whole team, they were awesome. And to everyone who was there to support us and those who showed their support although they couldn’t be there, it truly means a lot.”

The fundraiser saw live performances by The Shades, Jahworx and BZN band which kept the crowd dancing and in good cheer even through the rain.

The Letaba Tzaneen Lions Club handed over a cheque to Geldenhuys and shared a warm message to help keep their spirits up.

Last week, Gerhardus had told Letaba Herald that once Reinhardt completes his treatment in May this year, he will still need to undergo another three years of receiving treatment which will be once every month.

Herald will give updates on Reinhardt’s progress and journey to fighting leukemia. The Lions Club also thanked all their sponsors and the community at large for their help and support in coming together to offer a helping hand to the Geldenhuys family.
