Isis Iris van Heerden died peacefully on 10 January, 2020 at the age of 86.

Isis and her deceased husband, William (Bill) van Heerden were pioneers of the Letsitele Valley after a period in Canada where Bill served in the RAF as a fighter pilot during the Korean war. It was here that their eldest son, Douglas and daughter, Lynnette were born. Soon after, they moved back to South Africa and settled in Letsitele Valley where their third child, Guy was born.

Many happy years were spent in the Valley where Bill was a mango farmer on the farm, Masimo Estates, and Isis became well known in the district for her exceptional sewing skills – throughout the 80’s she became the creator of many exquisite bridal gowns and was the lady to go to for the ultimate wedding dress. She also held the Elna sewing franchise for many years and gave sewing lessons. She was a keen seamstress right up until her death – always creating clothing and other goods in the most intricate detail.

In 1990, Bill and Isis moved up the mountain to their farm, Kiwiland in Haenertsburg. When Bill passed on in 2000, Isis moved to Tzaneen where she lived with her daughter Lynnette and her husband Nick Dorfling. Her son, Douglas passed away in November of 2017 after a battle with cancer. She passed on peacefully at home surrounded by her beloved family.

Isis adored her family and was revered in return. She is survived by her daughter in law, Heather van Heerden, Her daughter Lynnette and husband Nick Dorfling and her youngest son Guy and wife Nina van Heerden. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren and their spouses, as well as three great- granddaughters.

Rest in Peace Mommy dearest, darling Gran, you will be sorely missed, but always fondly remembered.
