Krynauw gains international acclaim

Krynauw Nel, former head boy at Merensky High School, is gaining international acclaim for a structure he designed at the Malapa excavation site in the Cradle of Humankind.

A former pupil of Merensky High School, Krynauw Nel, is gaining international acclaim. The Malapa Fossil Cover in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site which Nel designed was named overall winner of the 2014 Steel Awards on Thursday evening.

The awards have been held since 1981 by the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) and are the premier awards for the South African steel construction industry.

Nel is also on the World Architecture Festival shortlist in the category Small Projects. This prestigious award is known as the Oscars of architecture and architects from over 40 countries will be competing in 30 categories.

Winners will be announced on October 3 at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.
