Gladstone an African champion yet again

Despite suffering from a knee injury early in the season, Constable Gladstone Shabangu, still managed to be the best long jumper in Africa within the policing field.

Shabangu collected a gold medal at the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) in Angola recently.

The Nkowankowa resident won with a jump of 7.34m distance which was also his season’s best.

This is his second win in the continental competition, he first won gold in 2013 in Namibia where he broke a record with the distance of 7.50m.

In 2015 he only secured a silver medal, after losing to a Zimbabwean colleague.

“I’m happy with my performance, taking into consideration that I was struggling to jump over seven meters in two of my previous competition due to my injury,” he explained.

The people’s champ as he is affectionately known to his fans, also urged people to pursue their gifts and talents without losing sight.

He further stated that he is a living testament of Proverbs 18 verse 16 which states that ‘a man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men’.

Shabangu, as he has already started with his preparations for the 2020 season, promises to continue clinging on to his medal at the next SARPCCO games in 2022.
