Malefo defends road race title

Seasoned road runner Jacob Malefo (27), defended the Tlhotlhokwe 15 kilometre road race title recently. 

Malefo from Polokwane completed the race which started at Senopela Clinic in Ga-Matipane to Tlhotlhokwe Village in 48 minutes record time.

Remaketse Lekaka (19), came second in the men’s category after he finished the race in 50 minutes. Meanwhile, Believe Manganyi (35), came third after arriving on the finishing line at 51 minutes.

Malefo walked away with a floating trophy, R2000 cash prize and a medal. Lekaka and Manganyi who came second and third respectively got a cash prize of R1400 and R1000 and silver medals.

In the female category, veteran Jane Mudau (57) from Vhembe emerged victorious after she completed in 01:06 minutes.

 Ngwako Mahlatji followed by Leah Ramalepe (31), who completed her run in 01:11 minutes.

Some of the 39 athletes who took part in the road race this year.

Cynthia Ramosibudi (41), came third in 01:13 minutes.
In youth category, Remaketse Lekaka emerged victorious and was followed by Vasnath Ngobeni and Dzunani Baloyi respectively.

While in the grand master category, a Bolobedu Police Station senior officer, Samuel Maswanganyi (60), came first after completing the race in 01:10 minutes and was followed by David Mohale (67), who completed in 01:20 minutes.

However, a 73 year-old Reuben Mamanyoga was the only one crowned in the Great Grand Master’s category for completing the race in 01:55 minutes.

According to a founder and organiser of the race, Stanley Mabulana, a total of 39 athletes from different parts of the country participated this year.
