Phalaborwa: Life behind bars for raping minor (15)

Justice was finally served after a 37 year old man accused of raping a minor girl (15), was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Regional Court in Lulekani outside Phalaborwa.

On 4 April 2018 the accused, Donald Mnghemezulu were driving in his BMW around Lulekani when he met the victim and her friend.

They were on their way home from nearby shops.

“He offered the two girls a lift but instead of taking them home. Mnghemezulu drove to a secluded spot around the nearby bushes. Upon arrival, he forced the victim outside and raped her while her friend was locked inside the vehicle.The accused thereafter dragged the victim back to the car and dropped the two girls next to the victim’s home,” Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The traumatised girl reported the ordeal to her grandmother who immediately notified the Police.

A case of rape was opened and the suspect was tracked down and arrested at his home shortly after the incident.

The well experienced and dedicated Detective Sergeant Sharlot Luphondo-Mkansi of Phalaborwa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), who was appointed to investigate the case, used her investigating skills to gather all the evidence that helped put this heartless criminal behind bars for life, according to Ngoepe.
