GALLERY:Tavern tour was ‘nandzika my broer’

It is not everyday you get to see a bus comprising of people of all races driving to different tarvens in Nkowankowa recently.

This picture is not a fairytale it happens atleast once a year through the Tarven Tour initiative, a partnership between the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce and the South African Breweries (SAB).

The programme has been uniting the people of Tzaneen for over a decade until date.

In this years’ tour the group visited three tarvens namely, Jones Tarven, Chauke Tarven and Bona ‘Mzanzi’ Tarven respectively.

All members were ready to get into the bus and start with the tour.

On the first stop everyone was welcomed officially by SAB North Limpopo Area Manager, Bennet Kekana to the tour and said that he was impressed with his local team for hosting such an event.

As soon as everyone was welcomed the party began as the chamber members started mingling with locals by dancing and drinking the evening away at the tarvens.

The night was concluded at Bona, where everyone enjoyed a meal together before heading back to their respective homes.

“The visit by our friends was a success because it gives people who normally would not have an opportuinity to experience the township life to see what we are about.

More than anything it is a true epitome of the rainbow nation which Madiba and others fought for, to see white and black drinking together at a tarven without having to worry about crime and negativity,” explained Johannes van Rooyen, Owner of Jones Tarven.

The Chairperson of Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce, Llandi van der Walt, said that the occasion was a wonderful experience as it gives all people a chance to experience a different social scene.

The chamber holds monthly luncheons where they empower each other with different knowledge and skills which mostly benefit the local organisations and businesses.
