"It makes us proud, as this was a Limpopo qualifier challenge and to have done it so exceptionally leaves me at a loss for words"

The Tzaneen Cycling Club hosted their 8th annual Miami Magoebaskloof MTB Challenge at Merensky High School on Saturday 29 June.

The cycling challenges started as early as 06:00 and ended at 12:15, with the prize-giving.

The route options were 15km, 35km and 70km wherein children under 8 up until those who are under 14 could take part in the 15km.

Giving comment on the outcome of the event, Neels van der Merwe told Letaba Herald that it was a success.

“Everything was well organised with no hiccups whatsoever. That ensured that everything went 100% accordingly for us. The other thing that made the event a success was that the routes were well marked and we received compliments from the cyclists who took part once they finished their race.

“It makes us proud, as this was a Limpopo qualifier challenge and to have done it so exceptionally leaves me at a loss for words,” stated van der Merwe.

He also spoke on the attendance of the event, stating that it was no different from that of the previous year.

“Committee members will have a sit down to discuss ways in which we can improve the attendance for next year’s challenge. The other point is that I think introducing a new race might help us outsource the challenge and have it under a professional level wherein people will have more excitement when thinking of taking part.”

“This will also help in attracting not just the locals, but people all over South Africa who enjoy cycling,” Van der Merwe said.

He further mentioned that without the help of their sponsors, the challenge would have probably not went as smooth as it did.
