TZANEEN: Community members keep Easter roads safe

“We started this initiative to reduce the time it takes to get to an accident scene."

Community members got together this Easter weekend to make sure the roads are safe.

This initiative focuses on the Tzaneen, Letsitele and surrounding areas. Zack Botha from Sonco and Chris Swart from Large Security started this initiative around three years ago when they decided they wanted to keep the roads safe during the Easter holidays.

“We set up a home base at Viva Letsitele and from there everyone can take shifts to make sure the roads are safe for all the families traveling this weekend,” explained Botha.

He aslo mentioned that this year they planned the whole initiative better with local authorities and ambulance services to ensure that everything happens as smoothly as possible.

Marco Barhuizen helpes keep the roads clean and Isak Fichardt helps Botha with their communication platforms on Whatsapp.

“We started this initiative to reduce the time it takes to get to an accident scene, and also to make sure anyone involved in an accident can get medical attention as soon as possible,” explained Swart.

Together with various neighbourhood watches and community police forums, the whole group made sure to assist anyone traveling the R71 and surrounding roads. Come rain or shine, all parties involved stayed true to their cause, never faltering when an emergency happened.

The group would like to give thanks to their sponsors: Bella Ombré Hoekstukke, Alesia Boerdery, Surgarhill, Letaba Wireless, Letsitele Butchery, Blinkwater Meule, Miami Canners and Novon.

They would also like to thank community members for doing their part in keeping our roads safe.

“The whole idea behind this is to keep our communities safe, and I am glad to see that everyone contributed to make the idea a reality.

“There were a few accidents but they were handled swiftly. For this I’d like to thank every volunteer who stood with us,” concluded Botha.
