GIYANI: Masingita Mall finally opens

"Giyani is the new Johannesburg" these are the words of most the people who witnessed the opening of the newly built Masingita Mall last Thursday.

Thousands of people were part of the memorable day in the history of Giyani’s economy and development.

The mall boasts about 118 shops when combined with the old Masingita mall.

A majority of the shops were opened for business, however some shops were still running behind, but will be open soon.The Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale, had the honours of cutting the ribbon which marked the official opening of the centre.

After the opening, Rakgoale, Mike Nkuna, the Founder of the Mall, Ace Makgashule, ANC Secretary General and Basani Shivambu, Mayor of Greater Giyani Local Municipality, walked through the complex before they began an official opening ceremony.

The invite only opening ceremony was held next to one of the entrance of the mall in an elegant big white tent.

Nkuna had nothing but words of gratitude to all the stakeholders who were involved in the mall.

“Bringing the mall to the townships was a way for me to grow the economy of our people.” Our people don’t always have to travel to the urban areas to get access to better shops and services, but we have to bring all these to them,” explained Nkuna.

Back at the mall people had started doing their shopping, stores such as Game opened at 07:00 with majority of their customers buying TV screens and fridges.

Some of the shops which opened on the day were Clicks, Jet, Edgars, Shoprite, Jam, Cashbuild and Boxer to name but a few.

The community of Giyani in general are excited about the centre. Florah Makhubele from Mapayeni Village outside Giyani, came to the centre with her two kids and husband and told the LETABA HERALD that history has been made in the Giyani area.

“I’m happy, the mall is beautiful and it will bring us new and wondrful things,” she concluded.
