TZANEEN:Ben Vorster wins the Limpopo Coca-Cola® T20 Schools Challenge

Hoërskool Ben Vorster won the Limpopo Coca-Cola® T20 Schools Challenge Provincial Finals at Polokwane Cricket Club last Sunday.

Ben Vorster now stand the chance of representing the Titans at the Coca-Cola T20 Schools Challenge national finals that will be played between on March 15th and 17th in Pretoria.

To represent the Titans Ben Vorster still must play against the winners of the Northerns, Mpumalanga and Easterns provincial finals in a franchise final on the 2nd and 3rd of March at Willowmore Park.

This year’s provincial finals were played over two days with eight teams playing in quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.

The schools were Hoërskool Ben Vorster, Mohodi Cricket Club, Phalaborwa Hub, Northern Academy, Mahwelereng Hub, Nkowa-Nkowa Hub, Hoërskool Merensky and Taxilla Secondary School.

Hoërskool Ben Vorster beat Mohodi Cricket Club by 49 runs in the quarter final, Phalaborwa Hub by 5 runs in a tightly contested semi-final where they defended 5 runs in the final over, and Hoërskool Merensky by 7 wickets in the final.

There were many players from Hoërskool Ben Vorster that performed well but some of the most memorable performances were produced by their all-rounder, Johan Harms, who had to defend 5 runs in the school’s semi-final against the Phalaborwa Hub and he bowled a maiden and took two wickets in the process, his performance got him into the final.

In the final against Hoërskool Merensky he took 3/18 and hit 55 not out to help his team become the provincial champions.

The winner of the Franchise finals will join the other five franchises winners and the two schools that qualified though the CSA Focus School programme at the competition’s National Finals at the University of Pretoria from the 15th to 17th March 2019.

The Coca-Cola T20 School Challenge winner stands to walk away with R110 000.00 for their school.

Other results ; Quarter-Final: Hoërskool Ben Vorster 139/4 (J Harms 40) vs Mohodi Cricket Club 90 all out (T Makoro 37, E Vd Schyff 3/12, C Geldenhuys 3/27) Ben Vorster won by 49 runs.

Northern Academy 43 all out (P Ngobeni 6/6) vs Phalaborwa Hub 45/0.

Phalaborwa Hub won by 10 wickets.

Mawhelereng Hub 64 all out (S Nkosi 3 18) Nkowa-Nkowa Hub 70/3 (M Chauke 26, M Mokwena 3/10) /  Nkowa-Nkowa Hub won by 7 wickets.

Hoërskool Merensky 147/9 (M Patel 58, H Razak 4/19) vs Taxilla Secondary School 45 all out (B Mahammed 3/11) Merensky won by 102 runs.

Semi-Final (rain reduced to 10 overs): Hoërskool Ben Vorster 144/9 (E van der Schyf 35, L Shilubane 34*, J Harms 31, K Mathole 3/31) vs Phalaborwa 139/7 (S Ngobeni 40*, T Mokhumaze 2/32) Ben Vorster won by 5 runs.

Hoërskool Merensky 161/3 (H Patel 59*, G Engelbrecht 41) vs Nkowa-Nkowa Hub 76 all out (L Botha 3/24, H Patel 3/10)

Final (rain reduced to 10 overs): Hoërskool Merensky 93/9 (J Harms 3/18, E van der Schyf 2/4) vs Ben Vorster 94/3 (J Harms 55*)
