TZANEEN: Cyclists donate to Care Group

The story began with the unfortunate passing of Doug van Heerden at the Cancer Care Centre on November 17 2017.

The group of Tzaneeners who participated in the 94.7 cycling challenge raised almost R60 000 for the Tzaneen Cancer Care Centre, with this, PPS gave R10 000 and the Free Masons gave R5 000 to the cause.

This added up to a sum total of R74 710 raised for the Cancer Care Centre.

The story began with the unfortunate passing of Doug van Heerden at the Cancer Care Centre on November 17 2017.

His wife, Heather van Heerden, committed herself to raising funds for the Cancer Care Group and the work they do.

Jayne Abendroth came up with the idea to do the 94.7 cycling challenge.

A year later on Sunday, November 18, an amazing group of local cyclists – as well as a few from outside our community – cycled the Telkom 94.7(which was 94.7 kilometres) in Johannesburg.

“The Tzaneen Care Group admires each cyclists’ courage and bravery in taking on this challenge and the months of hard work and training that has gone into getting ready for the race,” said Melissa Strydom, Manager at the Care Centre.

The main sponsor was Mike van Reenen from Letaba Lab who sponsored the cycling shirts.

The Care Group would like to thank the following companies who contributed to the packed to the rim goody bags: Adele’s Beauty & Slimming Clinic, AFRO India Trading, Allan Forbes Brokers, Budget Couriers Tzaneen, Clemengold GIN, DJ Services, Harvey World Travel – Centurion, Heather van Heerden, Eco Choice – Mango Magic, Mediplus Pharmacy, Oudam Farming, Rodney Cooper Estates, Sugar Hill, Tzaneen driveline, Van Heerdens Pharmacy, ZZ2, and to all the individuals, too many to mention.

To join this year’s fundraiser in conjunction with the 94.7 cycling challenge, Heather said the entry fee would be to raise R2

000 for the cause.

“The first 40 people to register will get a free t-shirt,” explained Heather.
