TZANEEN: Chamber of Commerce luncheon gains momentum

The event was sponsored by Momentum Financial Wellness Practice and took place at Hotel@ Tzaneen.

THE first of many Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce lunches started with a bang on Friday, January 25.

The event was sponsored by Momentum Financial Wellness Practice and took place at Hotel@ Tzaneen.

The Momentum Financial Wellness Practice’s team: Elize Lourens, Mesché Meijer, Andra Thompson, Marietjie Labuschagne, George Lourens, Madeleine Saunders, and Elismarie Botes.

The guest speaker, Damian McHugh, spoke about how the butterfly effect plays a crucial role in our financial and physical health.

The butterfly effect, for those who are not familiar with the term, is basically the notion that when a butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the world it can cause a storm to take place on the other side.

To a certain extent this could also be compared to the domino effect.

With this in mind he went on to explain that the most important aspect of financial security is your health.

What he meant by this was that if you stay healthy and fit, you wouldn’t have to dive into your saving for medical emergencies – your good health will have a butterfly effect on your financial security.

“The key to financial wellness is being healthy. No one would hesitate to sell all their assets to help a family member or themselves with a health issue,” explained McHugh.

He went on to say that the four leading causes of health problems are high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and inactivity.

“Sitting down is equivalent to having a smoke. It changes your body’s metabolic rate. This means that one hour of watching TV can reduce your life expectancy by 22 minutes,” exclaimed McHugh.

He did a few interesting ‘tests’ with the crowd to show them how to check how healthy they are.

He also said that the reason why you exercise is important, the why is your motivation.

After this the Momentum Health Tzaneen team spoke to the crowd and gave an information session on what they are all about.

Elismarie Botes launched an exclusive benefit in connection with Funds@Work available for chamber members.

The Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Pest Control & Eco Choice for the guest speaker’s hamper, Momentum Financial Wellness Practice for sponsoring the lunch, Damian McHugh for his insightful speech and the whole team at Hotel@ for making the afternoon a memorable occasion.
