TZANEEN: Grade R’s first day of school at Dududu Primary School

The first day of school for Grade R learners at Dududu Primary School in Nkowankowa Township outside Tzaneen was smooth sailing.

Most parents came with their bundles of joy for the moral support and also had the opportunity to attend the school assembly with the pupils.

The learners were gathered in one class before they could be sent to their permanent classes.

But it was not all rosy.

Some learners were crying for their parents when they were leaving and most claimed that they wanted to go to ‘thoyilete’ and we all know they wanted to run after their guardians.

One of the boys even tried biting the teacher when she tried to cool him down, another started banging the table and one even tried escaping out of the classroom but he was caught and taken back to class.

Grade R Teacher, Thandy Shivuri tried cooling the situation by making the kids sing songs, eventually the atmosphere was calm.

Many of the parents also found it hard to let go of their kids as some of them were watching their kids through the windows and did not want to leave.

Some of the learners already opened their lunch boxes and  were eating while others were throwing tantrums.
