Sparking the love for reading

Two local primary schools had their libraries spruced up and renovated recently after Standard Bank donated three libraries in the Limpopo region this year.

Vhulakanjhani Primary School in Nkambako village outside of Tzaneen was given a new lease of life on Wednesday, November 7 and Mzilela Primary School in Mzilela Village in the Greater Giyani area was renovated on Friday, November 9.

The RAK team (Random Acts of Kindness) goes into the schools and prepares the classrooms for the library implementation. RAK Events is contracted by the CSI Division of Standard Bank to implement libraries in Primary Schools across the country.

The classroom is cleaned, painted and general repairs are taken care of where necessary.

The project is then completed by the RAK team with the assistance from a team of Standard Bank employee volunteers.

The project is in its third year of making a difference in the lives of young learners.

The objective of the program is to cultivate a love of reading among the learners in the Foundation Phase by providing an exciting library space with up to date and relevant books specially chosen to spark the love for reading.

The Standard bank employees arrive at the school to complete the following activities: painting the unique tetra shelving, painting the pre-drawn wall murals and painting the wooden wall decals, making tyre and pallet wood seating for the children, installation of a worktop for the older children, creating of reading corners, hanging blinds, placing of the new shelving units in the library and sorting books and placing the books on the shelving.
