TZANEEN: Agri Expo bringing a change in food security

THE MEC for Agricultural and Development in Limpopo, Bioskopo Makamu, applauded the mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Maripe Mangena for hosting a successful Agricultural Expo event.

Makamu was impressed by the two day event which began on Wednesday, September 20 and held at the Tzaneen Country Lodge.

He was speaking during the gala dinner where he was the keynote speaker at Sima Lodge in Tzaneen.

“Thank you for playing a role in food security in the province and the country at large by promoting agriculture,” explained Makamu.

The occasion gave an opportunity for local farmers to exhibit their produce at the lodge and it also afforded them the opportunity to network with other farmers.

WS Seedling a company which produces cucumber, tobacco and tomatoes just to name but a few was awarded R99 774.99 by GTM to invest more in their projects.

“After a year, we will check with the company to see if they have used the money effectively and if they have invested in teaching young people skills,” said Kwena Maphoto, CEO of GTEDA.

The gala dinner was honoured by different local businesses, local farmers, agri colleges and the Mayor of Phalaborwa, Pule Shai.

Local businesses were also given a chance to sign a pledge to make sure that they will make agriculture a priority and that they will produce quality products.

The night was concluded with a delicious meal with good and soothing music in the background.
