Hoedspruit shooters are on target

After the Waterburg Defensive Pistol Club (WBDPC) took the top spot last year, the Hoedspruit team were left with a score to settle in 2018.

Hoedspruit Defensive Pistol Club (HDPC) held the Limpopo Champions League (LCL) on Saturday. During the 2017 competition, the Waterburg Defensive Pistol Club (WBDPC) took the top spot and the Hoedspruit team were left with a score to settle in 2018.

Once HDPC won the bid to host LCL 2018 it wasn’t long before a date was set, preparations were underway and members couldn’t stop practicing to ensure that HDPC will be crowned the new best in Limpopo.

The theme for the shoot was ‘Safari gone wrong’ which is quite fitting for Hoedspruit.

Saturday saw a bright and breezy start for all the competitors as the teams had to register and equipment checks carried out.

The match comprised of seven stages, all appropriately names such as the ‘Unruly hyena’, ‘The Hoed drill’ and ‘Bush meat compound.’

Stage one, the ‘Bush meat compound’ was a typical anti-poaching scenario. The stage saw the shooter searching for illegal meat in a poachers hideout. This proved quite tricky as the targets were strategically placed so as to make the shooting a little more difficult.

Stage four, named the ‘Lodge rampage’ is probably any lodge manager’s worst nightmare. The stage depicted a scene where your guests were being robbed in your very own lodge. Shooters had to engage targets in the open, then through a window, run to another shooting position behind them and engage through a second window. A simple exercise that proved to be quite challenging just by adding a disappearing target to the mix.

After the seven stages were complete and the last shots fired just after 13:00, shooters gathered around the braai area at Sandspruit Shooting Range for the prize giving and braai.

HDPC did exceptionally well taking most of the first, second and third positions in various divisions and classes. There were six main categories that caught the attention of all the shooters. They were: High Junior Boys, High Junior Girls, High Lady, Most Accurate, LCL 2018 Winner and LCL 2018 Club Winner HDPC won the club award and can proudly say that they are the BEST IDPA club in the Limpopo Province.
