Hoedspruit residents pedal to help Andries

Are there any other towns in this country that work so well together as the community of Hoedspruit?

The two main Hoedspruit Facebook pages get so much attention from residents and as soon as someone has a problem, the community is there to help in any which way that it can.

Recently, concerned resident Rian Grundling posted on one of the social media groups, outlining his frustration of seeing a Post Office delivery man, named Andries, cycling around town with a less than adequately equipped bicycle.

His post read: “There is a friendly postman that is always smiling that delivers post with a bicycle in Hoedspruit and Drakensig… One day he stopped at my house with a puncture and I quickly helped him repair it. However his bicycle that the Post Office gave him is in a bad shape. The pedals are missing and some of the things are together with wires. I do not understand how they can let him drive around like that. I wrote a letter to the Post Office about this but until today no reply.

Before.

After.

“I had some spare pedals and my gardener and I fixed his bicycle a bit. Unfortunately the place where the pedals are mounting were in such a bad shape that we had to drill a new hole and weld it on for it to work. It is not perfect but it will help a bit I hope. Now at least he have pedals again instead of a piece of iron.”

Soon after posting this, Greer-Leo Smith from Greer’s Sports and Cycling offered to service the bicycle for Andries free of charge.

After receiving such positive feedback from his social media post, Grundling realised that his email to the Post Office had not actually been received as a typo was made in the email address.

Subsequently both he and the HOEDPSRUIT HERALD sent emails to the Post Office to see if something can be done for Andries.

At the time of going to press, the HERALD had not received a response from the Post Office but will certainly be following up in due course.
