TZANEEN: Young and influential in her own right

One young lady says she is sick and tired of seeing young people getting wasted in alcohol, abusive relationships and poverty and she is doing her bit to change all of this.

Camilla Ndhlovu (22), is the founder of Girl, Love Yourself Foundation (GLYF), a Non Profit Organisation (NPO) based in Nkowankowa Township, which mainly focuses on empowering broken girls and young women.

GLYF regularly visit local underprivileged schools where they motivate young broken girls and also supply them with food and clothing.

“My dream is to create a generation of young women who are empowered and have the right set of mind,”Explained Ndhlovu.

Her passion for educating girls in this way materialised after coming out of a volatile relationship herself.

The relationship caused her to have a miscarriage.

She was also raped at the age of 13 and kept it a secret from her friends and family for four years, until her father asked her why she was a rebellious teenager.

She is now taking her hardships and turning them into a message which is changing young girls who are in similar situations.

organisation has recently started an after school program, which teaches highschool learners Mathematics, Physical Science and English.

Ntsako Mahayi, Aubrey Maundla and Naledi Mokoena, have volunteered their time to teaching learners from Progress Secondary School on Saturdays and sometimes during the week.Ndhlovu, is the daughter of well known pastor and motivational speaker in the Tzaneen area, Pastor Lawrence Ndhlovu, one of the few black pastors in the area to shepherd a great number of white disciples.

“Most people in my community are not sick of being sick yet, if so we would have more people successful, less young moms and less baby daddy-drama,”Camilla Ndhlovu.

She says that the world needs more young people with a purpose and that can also be achieved with having the right circle of friends.

“June 16 is perverted, we will probably have more young people drinking and getting wasted on the day, rather than doing something constructive, just like the youth of 1976,” she added when asked about her opinion of Youth Day.

The young community developer pleads to businesses and the community to help with donations towards getting an office space, as she is currently working from her parents garage.

People can also donate clothing and non perishable food items to the organisation.
