Local NPO making community victorious
The NPO aims to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds and has two branches the educational and charity outreach.
Victorious Attitudes is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), established by a group of students from the N’wamitwa community in 2016.
The NPO aims to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds and has two branches the educational and charity outreach.
The educational outreach focuses on encouraging students never to give up on their dreams because of their backgrounds. The founders of the organisation are, Twisiso Mavabaza, Phoslinah Ngobeni, Matimu Mtebule, Gavaza Khosa, Donation Hlongwane and Civility Mathebula. “We help them decide on which career path to take.
“We visit various High schools where we interact with Grade 12 learners and we also take them to Internet Cafe`s where we help them do online applications for admission to universities and we cover the costs.
“We managed to register one student at a computer academy this year,” Twisiso Mavabaza, explained Meanwhile the charity outreach focuses on providing food and clothes for various families in different villages.
They collect clothes from people who are willing to donate. In the past two years they have managed to provide food and clothes to 14 families in the area. “It is just unfortunate that we only provide these things once annually, because we don’t have as much support and sponsorship as yet.
“Our future goal is to do it quarterly,” she said. The NPO raises funds by hosting events and asking for donations. In 2017 they started hosting two events namely; Victorious Attitudes Pageant and Victorious Marathon, which will be a tradition every year.
They have also started various campaigns; the clothes campaign, canned food, sanitary pads, evening dresses and blazers.
They provide the evening dresses and blazers to Grade 12 learners who can not afford to buy their own attire for their Matric Dance. “We are also looking for sponsorship of any sort to help our organisation going forward and help us achieve our goals,” Mavabaza added.
