TZANEEN: Township shoe engineer is simply excellent

Baloyi started his shoe repair business three years ago after working in different companies, but with nothing to show for it.

Not everyone is made for the eight to five working day, this is the case with Excellent Baloyi, a cobbler (shoe repairer) from Maake.

With the South African unemployment rate being at 26.7%, more and more young people are resorting to business to make a living.

Baloyi started his shoe repair business three years ago after working in different companies, but with nothing to show for it.

His business is called ‘Excellent Shoe Repair and Wash’, and focuses mostly in fixing Carvella and Timberland shoes.

“The reason my business is solely focused on these two brands is that I have noticed that few people are able to take good care of these shoes specifically,” he explained.

The father of two encourages young people to start their own businesses so that they can contribute to the economy of the country, instead of waiting for the government to give them something.

He clearly state that he is making more money now that he is his own boss, compared to the time he was working for other people.

Baloyi added that they must not despise humble beginnings.

His business is opposite the Maake Plaza along the main road to Maake TVET College.

Some of his short term goals for his business include, building a bigger space, so that he can work efficiently.
