Dirt Dash Gallery: All the dirty bits

When last can you say you really laughed so hard from good, clean, innocent fun? OK, maybe not so clean.

Dirt was the order of the day at the Dirt Dash at Magoebaskloof Adventures on Saturday, but moreover, smiles seemed to be the continuous theme.

So many happy, smiling, laughing people from all over Tzaneen coming together for a great cause and a wonderful day.

The 5km muddy event was not for the feint of heart, pushing its competitors with 30 tough obstacles.

Nobody got down about it though, they simply just got down and dirty!

Even the intermittent drizzle was not enough to dampen spirits.

The team names were also enough on their own to plant a smile on anyone’s face; ‘Dirty divas’, ‘Afronauts’, ‘Mudder Fudders’ and ‘More Wine, Less Whine’ were just a few of the well thought out squad titles gracing the event.

This year’s event saw a total of 360 participant, compared to last years 288 participants.

The event was put in place to raise much needed funds for Tzaneen Care Group.

After the huge success of last year’s Dirt Dash, the stakeholders made it their mission to raise R100 000 from this year’s muddy obstacle event.

Here crossing fingers that they managed to reach and even surpass their target.

Tzaneen Care Group does wonders for our community members on a daily basis, offering respite care for many cancer patients, especially those who are terminally ill from the disease.

We all know that cancer isn’t easy and it throws its patients into deep levels of discomfort.

Yasmeen Moosa, Chairlady and Director of Tzaneen Care Group says: “Too often people become too comfortable and complacent with their lives. When we are faced with challenges we must remember that we have it in us to face it and we have the support of those who love us to champion us along.”

With this in mind, it was great to see Tzaneen residents from such diverse backgrounds, strengths, ages and fitness levels get out of their comfort zones and take on the physical challenge of the Dirt Dash in honour of those who are suffering unimaginably due to cancer.

Tzaneen Care Group hope to use the funds to complete some much needed building work and improvements to the Care Centre.

They hope to follow on from the initial work carried after last year’s event, including; the last installation of an aluminium door in one of the rooms and paving the area outside of the room and connect it to the existing walkway.

Additionally, they hope to construct a roof over the lapa so that family members can enjoy sitting outside, even if the weather is not favourable.

They also wish to be able to purchase new linen and bedding for all the rooms.

Tzaneen Care Group would like to extend their thanks to everybody involved, from the sponsors to the participants, from the sound team to the MC.

Furthermore, a heartfelt thank you goes out to Smit & Kie for taking hands with Tzaneen Care Group and sponsoring the venue as well as entering six teams of staff members into the event.
