WATCH: Students at Giyani Nursing College strike due to poor sanitation

"We are being exposed to diseases without any form of back up."

Students at the Giyani Nursing College are protesting outside the campus since yesterday due to ‘poor sanitation.’

“The toilets are blocked and are not working. Level one students did not get their stipends since January but they still go to work
and we are being exposed to diseases without any form of back up,” a student who wishes to stay anonymous told the Herald.

Students further alleged that those who are staying on the ground floor in the hostel at the campus, wake up in sewerage water every morning due to the poor maintenance of the sewer system.

“We have been rioting since yesterday, today we are continuing and even tomorrow until we get a response,” she said.

According to information other nursing colleges in Limpopo have also embarked on protests for not being paid stipends and poor living conditions.
