Tzaneen: Department of Labour to move into new offices, or maybe not?

If Tzaneen can rely on Minister Oliphant's word, the disarray at the Department of Labour may be soon something of the past.

The Department of Labour closed down its Tzaneen Labour Centre in November 2017.

DA shadow minister on Public Services and Administration, (overseeing all government departments and entities), Desiree van der Walt posed questions to the Minister of Labour, Mildred Oliphant, on the vacating of the Home Affairs offices at the Boulevard Building in Tzaneen, moving them into the old Fire Brigade/Traffic Department at the municipality.

“The building started not to be compliant during 2009 when the landlord started renovations in a building; attempts by the Department of Labour to the Department of Public Works to acquire alternative accommodation were not successful,” Oliphant said.

According to Oliphant, the Department did not want to break the services to the community and the move was solely for the purpose of business continuity.

“The infrastructure is being attended to, however, a suitable building has been identified by the Department of Public Works and will be available in April 2018,” Oliphant said.

Letaba Herald were reliably informed that the proposed building that is likely to be occupied is the old Land Bank premises in Kew street.

The Herald still awaits confirmation as it is understood that other government departments have also put in bids to occupy the building.

Nothing to smile about!
