Water response task team formed
The Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale has put together a Water Response Task Team.
The task team is aimed at accelerating the district municipality’s efforts of delivering water to communities.
“Through the team, Rakgoale also seeks to improve the synergy of various entities of government in the delivery of water to communities,” said Mopani District Municipality spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana.
Shikwambana said the team is made of councillors, technicians and high ranking officials from the district municipality, Lepelle Northern Water, Department of Water and Sanitation and all five local municipalities.
“Among other things, the team will develop a detailed water challenges solution document with a clear action plan and time frames to deal with water challenges in the district,” said Shikwambana.
He further said the team will meet on a regular basis to monitor the implementation of action plan and report directly to the Executive Mayor.
Meanwhile, Mopani District Municipality Executive Mayor, Nkakareng Rakgoale and the Department of Water and Sanitation’s Acting Regional Head in Limpopo, Lesiba Tloubatla launched the Mopani District Water and Sanitation Community Forum at Nkowankowa Community Hall on Friday.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau the initiative is part of the department’s efforts to ensure that relations between government and communities are strengthened and improved. “Community forums will ensure that issues pertaining to service delivery, particularly in the water and sanitation sector are dealt with much quicker and effectively,” said Ratau..
He added that the Department of Water and Sanitation has already established five Water and Sanitation Forums in all the five local municipalities under the Mopani District Municipality.
