N’wamitwa Day on point

Xitsonga traditional outfits were the order of the day at the 2017 N'wamitwa Day at the Valoyi Vatsonga Cultural Village on Saturday.

Vatsonga people from all over the country graced the event mainly dressed in their traditional attires with the females dressed in Xibelani (Xitsonga dance skirt).

The day showcased the culture and traditions of the Vatsonga people and the progress made by the communities in developing themselves with the help of government donors.

Amukelani Shiluvana, Nkakasana Muhlava, Nkata Hosi Muhlava the second and Ntomana Muhlava at Nwamitwa Hall during N’wamitwa Day celebrations.

And it also showcased the development projects initiated by Hosi Nwamitwa the Second, Tinyiko Shiluvana to help alleviate poverty and shortage of skills among her subjects.

Last year the event uplifted the spirit of the communities on working towards unity in all spheres.

More and more people are getting hooked and involved in organising and participating in this unifying event.

This year the event was a one day event, which was attended and addressed by dignitaries such as Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Des Van Rooyen Minister of the Department of Energy Mmamoloko Kubayi, Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi, Minister of Tourism, Tokozile Xasa, Executive Mayor of Mopani Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoele and the Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Maripe Mangena and many other more.

Local projects and small businesses also got the opportunity to display their products on stalls provided.

The guests were entertained by traditional dances and local musicians.
