Tzaneen: Farmer says no to corruption
A local farmer says he is tired of corruption and he will do something about it.
Ernest Mukhawane (59) says he cannot stand corrupt officials who asks for bribes from taxpayers.
Mukhawane alleges that two staff members at Batho Pele Private Test Station asked for a bribe to help him pass the test.
“When I took my new car (Ford Bantam) that I had just bought from a local dealer, I failed the test because I was told that my hand-brake, wipers and arm rest were not in a good condition.
But the lady who conducted the test and another guy who works inside the office said that they can help me if I can give them R100 each to get clearance,” said Mkhwawane.
Letaba Herald went to the test station and found the woman who allegedly asked for the bribe and she denied any knowledge of the allegations.
“I don’t work with money here but I deal with testing the vehicles only.
I cannot even fail a person but the machine decides if the vehicle has passed or not.
His vehicle is a light vehicle which rarely fails the test,” said the woman.
He says that the rot of corruption must end because if it does not stop, the future generation will be doomed.
