ACORNHOEK: Man convicted of robbery with firearm

A 34 year old man was convicted to 15 years in jail at the Mhala Margistrate Court on June 26 for a robbery he committed with a firearm on August 30, 2016.

A 34 year old man was convicted to 15 years in jail at the Mhala Margistrate Court on June 26 for a robbery he committed with a firearm on August 30, 2016.

“It is alleged that a 28 year old woman was walking alone at Dikwenkweng, Casteel when she came across the suspect who pointed a firearm at her, took her handbag with bank cards and cellphones,” stated Captain Mpho Nonyane, Acornhoek police spokesperson.

Following this, the suspect Tshepo Maile allegedly tried dragging the victim into a nearby bush but failed as the victim was screaming for help.

“The suspect was arrested on September 2, and we thank Magistrate Marie Theron for a successful conviction and letting the law take its course,” concluded Nonyane.
