UPDATE: #Rhinopoaching ‘Ndlovu gang’ re-arrested in Hoedspruit

The rhino poaching trio, commonly known as the Ndlovu gang, who are described as a highly-organised poaching syndicate were rearrested on May 31 as they exited the Grahamstown court house following a separate poaching case.

It is alleged that the Ndlovus were arrested at a resort in Grahamstown and in their possession police found a huge rhino horn valued at roughly R1.2 million, a darting rifle and drugs used to dart animals, darts, saws and knives, camping gear, two rental cars, and cellphones in 2016.

“The suspects are also linked to two cases of Rhino poaching that took place in Hoedspruit after they were arrested in another province, Police investigations led to the acquisition of information that resulted in the warrant of arrest being issued for the Hoedspruit case”, Sergeant Livhuwani Mulaudzi, Hoedspruit police spokesperson told the Herald.

It is alleged that the suspects were transported from Grahamstown to Hoedspruit where they were arrested.

A firearm was recovered from the suspects which linked them to other rhino poaching cases.

“According to information, the Ndluvos were involved in approximately 60 cases of rhino poaching across the country and they appeared before the Hoedspruit magistrate’s court on Thursday, June 1 and their case has been remanded to June 12”, concluded Mulaudzi.

“This is a milestone achievement by the police and other role players in the fight against rhino poaching especially in the Limpopo province and anyone who knows people involved in these crimes must contact Colonel Alpheus Mokale on 082 565 6524 or report to their nearest police station”, stated Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo police spokesperson.
