Tzaneen athletes to take on Comrades

Sixteen athletes from Tzaneen will participate in the 2017 Comrades Marathon this Sunday, June 4.

Fifteen of the runners are from the Tzaneen Marathon Club, the other runner, Greta Bekker, is from Le Club.

It is a 86.73km race that will start in Durban and end in Pietermaritzburg.

The marathon will be an up-run course through Pinetown.

A few of Tzaneen Marathon Club Members are on their way to run the Annual Comrades Marathon tomorrow, June 4. Tzaneen Superspar is assisting Daniƫl Mabulane, Lawrence Mahlatji, Benjamin Malatji, Edward Mathebula and Oupa Morwane with hampers including food and cash and donations to help with the expences. Solly Masetla from SuperSpar handed over hampers to Paul Zaayman, Chairman of the club who accepted the hampers on their behalf.

Daniel Mabulana will compete for his Back to Back medal, a medal awarded to runners who complete two consecutive marathons.

There are also three novice runners which are Louise van den Dool, Jan de Kocken and Liana van Niekerk.

Athletes that will be competing are: Cecil Baloyi, Cor Van Heyningen, Daniel Mabulana, Edward Mathebula, Erika Mac Connel, Johannes De Kock, Ngwako Lawrence Mahlatsi, Liana Van Niekerk, Louise Van Den Dool, Matome Rakhwale, Molimisi Benjamin Malatji, Oupa Morwane, Paul Zaayman, Sipho Seabela, Timothy Shingwenyana.The community would like to wish them well on their journey.
