Tzaneen’s Mayor reach out to angry protesters

The protests are a result of the recent rain which left many roads in the Bolobedu area in a dilapidated state.

The Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM), Maripe Mangena visited Bolobedu South after community members protested over damaged roads.

Ward 8,9 and 10 roads were badly affected by the rain to the point where some learners in the area could not attend school.

One of the road blocks where security had to be called in for the mayors car to pass.

“We need new and better roads because recently at a funeral a hearse could not get to the grave yard and people had to walk a distance carrying the coffin to the grave yard side due the bad roads,” said one of the angry residents who did not want to be named.

“We are here as GTM to show you that we are taking you seriously as the leaders and we are here to look for solutions,” said Maripe.

Maripe visited the area after the community members closed roads with burning tyres and woods with the hope of getting the attention of the leaders.

The mayor visited all three wards and spoke to ward leaders in pursuit of a solution and even went to see the badly damaged side with his team.

An agreement was reached that the next day the municipality engineering team would visit the area to look for ways of fixing the roads.

” We have set a Rapid Response Team (RRT) to come up with road plans for each cluster in the municipality,” said Neville Ndlala, GTM Spokesperson.

Ndlala added that the municipality also has four re-gravelling plants in place for the roads repairments.
