'15% of royalties from Marula Festival should be plough back to communities and uplift small businesses...'

The Ba-Phalaborwa Defence Force marched to the Municipality, with a memorandum to hand over to the mayor, Pule Shayi on February 8

Some of the demands listed on the memorandum were: 70% local artists with regards to their potential and credentials should be prioritised to perform, local promoters should host this annual event, LEDET should with immediate effect transfer back the power of Marula Festival programme back to Ba-Phalaborwa municipality, 15% of royalties from Marula Festival should be ploughed back to communities and uplift small businesses, Royal families should form part of all preparatory planning and their people recognized in the event.

Recommendations on the memorandum were as follows: A meeting with the MEC of LEDET, Seaparo Sekoati, office of the mayor should facilitate the meeting, 100% local promoters and artists.

“We accept their memorandum and have heard their demands.  We will ensure the memorandum reaches LEDET”, said Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality spokesperson, Jonas Mahesu.
