Avocado symposium a major highlight

The South African Avocado Growers’ Association will be hosting their annual Research symposium, February 15 and 16 at Hotel@Tzaneen.

Similar to previous years, the SAAGA Research symposium promises not to disappoint. Boasting an exceptional line-up of speakers with both local and international expertise.

Apart from feedback from locally funded SAAGA research projects, SAAGA will also be featuring international guest speakers like dr Elizabeth Dann and prof James Clarke among other.

Dr Dann is a senior research fellow at Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation at the University of Queensland. She will be sharing some Australian experiences with phosphonates and also discuss some other Phytophthora management tools, which is currently a major focus area in the South African Avocado Industry.

Dr Dann will also be participating in the Subtrop Phosphonate Focus Group meeting taking place February 15.

Not only does the symposium provide a platform for feedback regarding current and arising issues within the Avocado industry, but the symposium also provides a platform for interaction between different sectors within the whole fruit industry.

SAAGA is pleased to have major role players within the South African fruit industry as well as the government collaborating on several levels during the symposium. Presentations, amongst others, will be given by prof Wiehann Steyn from Hortgro, Wayne Kirkman from CRI and Thilivhali Nepfumbada from DAFF.

Over and above the excitement with the exceptional line-up to be expected, SAAGA will also be celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2017. Dr Jurg Bezuidenhout will be taking delegates down memory lane to celebrate 50 years of excellence within the Avocado Industry.

The SAAGA Research symposium is an event not to be missed by any role player within the fruit industry, whether their role be big or small.
