Khujwane residents say enough is enough

Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), gave the community members of Khujwane Village a chance to voice-out their complaints about their clinic at Khujwane Peace Maker ground last Thursday.

During a TAC door to door campaign a majority of the community members complained that the health workers at the clinic treated them badly.

“We are here as TAC to give an opportunity to the residents of Khujwane to voice their concerns about the clinic because the health centre is for the community,” said Daniel Mathebula, Prevention Treatment Literacy Training.

The majority of the complaints were about mistreatment of pregnant women going into labour and some of them left to give birth on their own.

One case involved a 23 year old woman going to the clinic with labour pains.

When she got there she was first checked and the nurse on duty told her that she was going to sleep, and would be attended to later.

The young woman eventually called her sister to take her to Letaba Hospital.

“I will raise the community’s complaints with the clinic and my wish is for the residents of Khujwane to be free to consult at the clinic,” said Modima Rakgoale from Khujwana Clinic.

The community and TAC reached a consensus that they will draw-up their complaints and send them to the clinic by Wednesday and they give the clinic two weeks to respond.

“If the clinic is unable to help us with our requests then we will take the matter to the Department of Health in Polokwane for review,” said Rogers Mashabela, TAC Chairperson at the Khujwana branch.
